This past weekend was a long weekend in NSW, Thanks Lizzie!. We had one of my friends come up to stay for the weekend, which gave me a chance to go and see some of the more touristy parts of where I live that I would normally avoid.

We started off Saturday morning right with breakfast and coffee at a local cafe and then headed out to do a bush walk at South Lawson. We did the 4 waterfall circuit which was a 2hr round trip and graded medium (I was still feeling the pull on my legs for days). I bought a new camera bag last week (this one if you’re interested), so it was a good chance to pack up the DSLR and take some photos.

The walk was a bit challenging particularly towards the end, but it was nice to get out in the fresh air and get a bit of exercise. I think I’ll start doing these walks more often and even try and get better at this particular route. I’m really lucky that I have so many of these types of walks a stones throw from me now so I may as well take advantage of it!

My friend also mentioned to us that he started Geocaching and we downloaded the app and went on a couple of hunts for Geocaches. We managed to find 4 that day! It’s a lot of fun and I recommend it for finding spots you’d never think of exploring. One of the spots was on the side of the highway around this rock i’d never even noticed before, and the view down to the city alone was amazing. I’m definitely keeping my eye on the app to see if I can find more!

We then headed up the mountain to go and check out the Three Sisters @ Katoomba, this was just a quick stop to take a couple of photos because it was packed with tourists. I always forget how beautiful the view is until I go back there, it’s absolutely stunning.

Shane (the husband) cooked some amazing beef short ribs on the smoker for dinner!. These are becoming a bit of a staple for when we have people over since they’re easy to cook and taste absolutely delicious. Hungry?

The next day started off a bit colder and we headed up to check out the Hydro Majestic @ Medlow Bath. I was hoping we could find a nice breakfast spot in here but the cafe didn’t open until 11am and for lunch only. Wasted opportunity! I think a cafe that did breakfast would do amazingly well here. So we had a look around and then headed up to Blackheath for breakfast and to check out the growers market.

Then, if my legs weren’t sore enough from the bush walk the day before they were soon going to be!. We attended Vivid Festival on Sunday night. I love going every year but the crowds just seem to be getting worse, I think I’ll try a mid week night next year. We didn’t get to see as much as we wanted to but we did manage to see the new installations at the Botanical Gardens before it closed down for the night.

Taking a break from being a tourist in my own city, I had a day of getting pedis and shopping with my mum on the Monday. We managed to score a few bargains (yay!). I actually took some photos of my purchases to do a blog post about (coming soon!).

I also set up a new Instagram dedicated solely to the blog, so it won’t be as random as my personal account! Go follow me Here!

Hope you enjoyed this little post about what I’ve been up to, hopefully I can try and do some more of these types of posts because I certainly love reading them.

My last post in March mentioned the fact i’d be taking a little break from doing the Weekly Deals posts for a couple of weeks due to moving… Weeeeeeeeell it ended up being more like a month. Oops! So let’s catch up!

MOVING/ Holy crap this has been tough… I’ve moved by myself as an adult a total of 3 times prior to this move. Granted, this was bigger then any of the others i’ve had before but I think i’m still recovering from it all. We’ve made the move from suburban Sydney to the lovely Blue Mountains, which I absolutely love and have loved for so so long. My parents moved there a few years ago now and since then I’ve always felt that we’d end up there as well at some point. I wasn’t quite prepared for how much work this move was going to be or how stressed I was going to be during/after it. Packing/Culling was fine (I love throwing stuff out!), we even had a garage sale & then followed up with a car boot sale the next day and made some extra $$’s while getting rid of stuff (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!).

We managed to move over the Easter long weekend so could do it in little spurts and then get a truck for the day for the big stuff, I am so grateful to our friends and family that helped us out, we are so lucky to have such awesome people to help us. So all good happy happy, then it came to cleaning up the old place, I went back on my own thinking I could do it all in a day – boy was I wrong. I ended up on the middle of an empty lounge room floor in tears… This was going to be a common pattern over the next few weeks to be honest (ugh).

As of right now we are pretty settled (or mostly anyway) the dogs are loving having such a big backyard to explore. We are now completely done with the old place and it’s rented out at a ridiculous price for what it is to someone else while we are living in a much nicer home. I only have a few more things to unpack and the spare guest room to sort out.

COMMUTING/ Something else i’m doing now that we’ve made the big move is commuting. I haven’t really commuted since I finally got my drivers licence but I made the decision to do the whole public transport thing 4 days a week and drive on Fridays (depending on if we have a social commitment after work) to work. Main reason is to save some km’s in my car and the fact it actually works out cheaper for me to get the train and bus. The thing I don’t like is the fact I have to get up so early (5.20am…). The thing I do like though is that I’ve been able to catch up on a lot of Podcasts and start reading a lot more (moving onto my next subject… Smooth transition). I do also want to try and get organized and writing blog posts on my trip home (my head is way too fuzzy to do this in the morning, plus I snooze for the majority of the trip lol).

READING/ As mentioned above, one of the things I really like about commuting is the fact I get a chance to read. I find if i’m at home I can always find a million other things I should be doing before reading (It’s a bit sad really that catching up on the latest Kardashian episode is made a priority over reading in my life). If you’re keen to see what I’ve been reading I’ve been updating my Goodreads regularly when I get a new book. I also joined up to the local library which I’ve been using on a weekly basis. One day I’ll have to post a photo of the view from my library, it’s incredible.

COOKING/ I love cooking and I had become really lazy/unmotivated with cooking dinner every night and often finding myself heading to the local KFC for a quick dinner fix. Now that we live quite away from these temptations (except for the yummy Thai place up the road) and the fact my kitchen is much much nicer and more spacious, and gas! I love cooking with gas!. I’ve actually been cooking dinner almost every night. We still do go out on occasion but even this has really reduced. I’m thinking I might start sharing some of my recipes on here; there’s nothing revolutionary but I enjoy reading everyday peoples recipes, especially if they’re fast and tasty! I’ve been pinning a few things I want to try out and my current food/pinning obsession are sheet pan dinners, one pan to clean? Sign me up!

CLEAN WITH ME VIDEOS/ I am oddly obsessed with the clean with me videos circulating on YouTube at the moment. If you haven’t watched one I suggest checking out How Jen Does It, you’ll be soon filling a spray bottle with water & vinegar and cleaning every surface of the house.

SNAPCHAT/ I am kinda sorta obsessed with Snapchat! Add me! Username: vulcanella

So that’s it for now, hopefully I’ll finally get myself sorted out and get back to some regular content on here. I really do miss blogging and the community that surrounds blogging. Have a wonderful weekend!

five current favourites

I have so many new things i’m loving at the moment and I feel like since I’ve been working on downsizing my stash that a few oldie but goodie gems are sure to make an appearance in a favourites post soon.

Here are five of the best at the moment!

1. Dettol Profresh Peach Burst Shower Gel RRP $6.49AUD – Shower gels are something i’m never loyal with and just throw in whatever scent i’m feeling (or is on special) when I’m doing the weekly shop. This shower gel however has been thrown into the trolley twice in a row (unheard of). This is such a fresh peach scent that stays on the skin. It does as it says and cleans well, but the scent (drooooooooool).

2. Models Prefer Soft Touch Mineral Powder in Soft Focus RRP $16.99AUD – I’ve raved about this powder ever since I first got it. I’ve used this everyday since I purchased it and I’ve finally hit pan! I don’t own the Hourlgass Ambient Lighting Powders but this is meant to be a good dupe; for me it’s just a great light finishing powder that adds a bit of extra glow to my pretty dull/dehydrated complexion. I never find that this makes me look cakey and in saying that i’m not sure it’d be enough of a finishing powder for those with oilier skin types. However I love it and will definitely be buying another when this baby runs out.

3. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush RRP $19.95AUD – Okay so firstly let me apologize because this shade is not available in Australia, I picked it up on my trip to the US earlier this year. Why it isn’t available here I don’t know because it’s seriously stunning! This is a copper shade that is so metallic it almost looks wet on the eye. I’ve been wearing it with a warm matte brown shade buffed into the crease, this on the lid, a bit of brown pencil liner smudged into my lashes, mascara and done! If you can get your hands on this particular shade and you like warm coppery colours, do it!

4. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed RRP $36AUD – This shade has been on my wishlist for the longest time, I remember seeing Emma talk about it on her blog quite a few times and since then it’s been a must buy. It’s a dusty rose shade that really works with any eye/lip combo you have going, it’s the no-brainer shade. A little pricey for a blush but a little goes a long way with these.

5. Essence I love Nude Eyeshadow in Sweet Like Chocolate RRP $5.10AUD – This is such a pretty warm shade (can you see a trend here?) it has a slight shimmer to it, but it’s very very slight. I’ve been using this in my crease for the look I mentioned above.

weekly makeup deals

Back with another roundup of Weekly Makeup Deals! Can you believe we are already in March? Holy crap this year is going quickly! March however means Autumn has begun in Australia, and this is my favourite season! I can’t wait for it to start getting cool and the jumpers/jackets/layers to come out. Ooooo Yeah!

I did a massive makeup cull this week, I was planning on filming it for my YouTube but I just wanted to get it done. I still have everything I culled (bar some oldies I threw out) so I might try and compile some sort of blog series on it on the weekend before I let my friends rummage through my stash.

Anyway, onto makeup you can buy cheap 😛

liquid lipsticks

liquid lipstick swatches

When it comes to lipstick I like the formula to be long lasting and matte, this is why liquid lipsticks are one of my favourite beauty products out there. As you can see from the picture above, I’ve tried out quite a few brands (and this isn’t even all of them, just the ones I wanted to mention). So from your budget buys to your more high end I’m going to give you the scoop on each and what I love / don’t love about them.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream RRP $12.95AUD (Shade – Zurich) – These aren’t technically liquid lipsticks but I still wanted to feature them anyway, they are a good starting point if your a bit scared to try the other long lasting liquid lipstick formulas. These are soft & creamy and dry down to be matte. They definitely aren’t long lasting and likely won’t make it past your first cup of coffee in the morning. The colour range is great ranging from nudes to vampy dark purples. Unfortunately the Target Australia stands i’ve seen them at here are always lacking and are never restocked so buying online is probably your best bet. I’m looking forward to trying the new NYX Lip Lingerie range if we ever get it here.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet RRP $24.00AUD (Shade – Pink Pong) – These are one of my favourite drugstore liquid lipstick options. The formula is quite watery and you do need to layer it up but the colour packs a punch (even the nude shade, which I also own) and they are super long lasting. You do need to be a little bit accurate with application because once these dry they are a bit of a pain to get off the skin. I’ve mentioned and swatched this shade before in another post here.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick RRP $29.00AUD (Shade – Androgyny) – I’m loving the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks right now and particularly this shade Androgyny. I find they go on really pigmented and aren’t overly drying on the lips. I’ve heard a few people mention they find the applicator a bit hard to work with but I haven’t had too much issue and just take my time applying it. The range has some pretty cool colours and is worth checking out if you’re after something a little different. I have Doll Parts on my wishlist next which I’ve heard is actually quite a good dupe for Posie in the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit.

Australis Velourlips RRP $10.49AUD (Shade – Mi-A-Mee) – I’m pretty sure these were the first matte liquid lipsticks that were made by an Australian company. The shade range is ever growing and they have some pretty cool colours (I would love to see a mauvey brown though). They aren’t my favourite formula of the liquid lipsticks I own but because they are pretty affordable it’s a good way to try out this type of lipstick to see if it suits you. I still really like these and will continue to pick up shades that interest me (especially on sale…Wooo!).

Sugarpill Liquid Lip Colour RRP $18.00USD (Shade – Trinket) –  I’m sorry to do this but this was a limited edition shade that they sold at IMATS LA and one of the things I couldn’t pass up, its a stunning mauvey brown (my typical shade of late) with golden glitter throughout. Yes the glitter transfers on your face but the shade is so beautiful that you really don’t care. I had to mention this because this formula is absolutely amazing, so pigmented, matte but it feels really nice on the lips. Plus it smells like creamsicle which is just everything! I do hope they come out with more shades because you know I’ll be stocking up. I’ll pop up a lip swatch of this at some point just to show how stunning it is.

Lime Crime Velvetines RRP $31AUD (Shade – Utopia) – Even though i’m no longer supporting this brand (just google Lime Crime and tonnes of information about dodgy business practices etc will come up) I did want to mention them here since they were the first liquid lipsticks I really got into. I still love the shade Utopia but I have found a really good dupe in the Australis Velourlips shade Shang-Hi. Now that I’ve tried many other brands as well I’m glad i’ve found better then Lime Crime. However they are still around if you want to try their products.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick RRP $6.00USD (Shade – Succulent)  – I frickin LOVE Colourpop, when these got released I’m pretty sure I was daily stalking youtube for swatch videos while compiling a list of what shades to get. Once you order Colourpop it becomes a slight additiction… I constantly have a wishlist for their products! There have been mixed reviews on the matte liquid lipsticks, personally I like the formula but I may have gotten lucky with the shades I own. I find them pigmented and super matte. They are slightly drying but that’s to be expected with this type of lipstick. I’m actually wearing Trap as i’m writing this and it’s been going strong since 7.30am this morning. They have such a large range of colours and more being released all the time. Also, if you want to try and dupe the Kylie Lip Kit’s they have some similar shades, it’s also rumoured her lipsticks were made by Colourpop. Ooooo controversy! If you are ordering from them try and split your order with a friend, that’s what I do since we’re both Colourpop addicts 🙂

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick RRP $30AUD (Shade – Lolita) – I picked up my first Kat Von D liquid lipstick at IMATS LA in January, it’s love. When I bought Lolita I was tossing up between that or Lolita II, you should have seen my order sheet I crossed it out about 3 times before I settled on Lolita. The shade is stunning and right up my alley (apparently it’s always sold out here). Again the formula is great on these they are pigmented, smooth, matte but creamy and last a loooong time. When you apply them they suggest not rubbing your lips together and letting each layer dry completely before adding anymore to get the best application. I’m loving the Kat Von D brand overall at the moment and am keen to add more to my collection.

Do you have a favourite liquid lipstick? One I need to try out? I’m a tad obsessed 🙂
