The Makeup Edit – August 2013

There was no July edit, and I’ve decided to move these to the beginning of the month… I just think it will work better!

I’ve really downsized this month. I felt I had picked too much in June and didn’t use the majority of it, which totally defeats the purpose of this whole project.

The Rules

  • Some products won’t be rotated, this is could be because either they are HG items or I simply don’t have something to swap them out with or am wanting to finish them up.
  • If i’m doing makeup for a special occasion I can dip into my regular collection, what I select for the edit is mainly for my everyday makeup.
  • Products will be rotated in the beginning of the month.
  • I will always note products that i’m trialling etc and let me know if you’d like a review! I’ll also link to any reviews/swatches I may have already done for any products already in the edit.

The Base – I feel like this is the hardest part to change what I use in this section each month. I want to finish my Revlon Colorstay in Buff. I have mixed thoughts on this foundation but since using Hydraluron it’s applying much better. I also like to mix it with Rimmel Match Perfection in Ivory (Review Here). I am so close to putting the Models Prefer All In One BB Cream in Light (Review Here) into that empties basket so again it’s featured.  I felt like adding a tinted moisturiser into the mix and the Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturiser in Luminous is perfect and was an absolute steal at IMATS last year. Other items in the mix – Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer – Highlight, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – Light, Urban Decay Primer Potion, Australis Fresh & Flawless Powder – Natural.

I may also pick up the newly released Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation and this will also be added if I do get it… there is a very high chance I’ll get it before the week is through :P.

The Eyes – I’ve really downsized this drawer! Keeping it simple with 3 shadows (MAC Naked Lunch, NYX Iced Mocha, MAC Swiss Chocolate). I’ve kept in my Rimmel Scandaleyes Kajal Eyeliner Pencils in Black & Nude. These are the bomb diggity and I think I need more in my life. I’ve also got a new mascara which i’m trying out! I’d heard great things about Maybelline The Falsies and when Priceline had all Maybelline mascaras for $10 I decided it was time I tried it. I’ve also added in a liquid eyeliner for that cat eye flick i’m still trying to perfect and this one is Maybelline Hyperglossy Liquid Liner.

cheekaugedit13The Cheeks – Secretly (or not so much anymore) my favourite part of the edit to pick! Quite a few new products here I’m giving a whirl on my cheeks. Firstly is the new BYS Blush Trio in Heart Skipped a Beat* I have a review coming of this, so you’ll have to wait for that for my thoughts. Another product which has a review coming are the 2 offerings from Models Prefer the Stick Blush in Tickled Pink & Powder Blush in Desk To Date. Again I have TheBalm Mary Loumanizer gracing the high points of my face and i’ve decided to try contouring again with NARS Laguna (part of the Orgasm/Laguna duo).

lipaugedit13The Lips – Maybe this is really my favourite part of the edit :). I had to choose some neutral/okay for work shades and for this I picked Revlon Lip Butter in Lollipop (Review Here), Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Sweetheart (Review Here) & Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Rivage. Looking at my swatches you wouldn’t think it was winter lol. I’ve also busted out a couple of newbies in the Rimmel Apocolips in Stellar & Apocoliptica (Review coming!). My shade of the moment purple with Australis Berry Nice Kiss* (Review Here). I finished off the mix with a bright coral with Maybelline Color Sensationals in Coral Crush (Review Here) – This was a bright in the range before Vivids were a thought.

So that rounds out the August makeup edit, I’ll see how I go stripping it back even further and if I make some dents on some of these products.

If you are doing something similar with your stash, I’d love to know!
