If you saw my previous post, I was talking about my shopping list for the Priceline 40% off cosmetics sale (sadly, now over). I didn’t end up getting everything on my list and subbed out a few things.

I actually had more in my basket but then told myself, do I really NEED another matte mauvey brown lipstick (Covergirl Katy Kat Matte in Catoure). It actually turns out my instinct to not get it was spot on because they are now 1/2 price this week.

So here are the products I did actually end up getting –

L’Oreal True Match Foundation in N2 – This was on my list and luckily the stand was pretty well stocked and I got my shade. I’m wearing it today and so far am really really happy with it!

Sensationail Gel Polish in Sugar Plum & Heirloom Lilac – I originally had the Opallac gel polishes on my list to go with my Opallac kit, but I saw these on clearance for $7.00 and the bargain hunter in me decided to go with these instead. It looks like they are discontinuing this line so good idea to stock up (I may try and grab more this weekend at this price). I didn’t get the 40% discount on these but they were cheap enough.

Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in 200 Medium – Impulse purchase alert! I swatched this on my hand and thought it was such a nice subtle highlight that I could chuck under my foundation (or over). I got the shade 200 Medium because it was goldy and the lighter shade was more pinky. I’ve discovered recently that goldy highlighters definitely suit me more. Another product i’m wearing today and really like, I usually go for a bit more BAM with my highlighter but this is just a nice subtle glow.

Essence Make Me Brow in Blondey Browns – This was on my list and so damn cheap! Wearing it today and can definitely see how people compare it as a good dupe to the Benefit Gimmebrow (at a fraction of the price).

Maybelline Volume Express Colossal The Big Shot Mascara – I love trying the new Maybelline mascaras, I’m going to give this a week or 2 before I give a verdict because I like my mascaras to dry out a bit but so far it gave me a bit of volume and length so yay!.

Essence Satin Blush in Satin Love – This was an on the whim purchase. I’ve been steering clear of my regular coral blushes and moving towards more nude/mauve/rosey blushes and this fit the bill. I wore it today and holy pigmentation! I went a touch overboard and had to get some intense buffing in to get away from clown territory eeeeek!. The shade however, is pretty but next time i’ll be not so heavy handed.

Essence Matt Touch Blush in Rose Me Up! – Again, another blush in the colour family i’m currently drawn to. This is a pretty matte blush and looked pretty subtle when swatched. Looking forward to trying it out.

That’s it for another Priceline sale! (well until theres a good catalogue sale lol). I still had a voucher from christmas so put this towards my purchase and ended up only spending $35 of my own money.

Did you pick anything up in the sale?

five current favourites

I have so many new things i’m loving at the moment and I feel like since I’ve been working on downsizing my stash that a few oldie but goodie gems are sure to make an appearance in a favourites post soon.

Here are five of the best at the moment!

1. Dettol Profresh Peach Burst Shower Gel RRP $6.49AUD – Shower gels are something i’m never loyal with and just throw in whatever scent i’m feeling (or is on special) when I’m doing the weekly shop. This shower gel however has been thrown into the trolley twice in a row (unheard of). This is such a fresh peach scent that stays on the skin. It does as it says and cleans well, but the scent (drooooooooool).

2. Models Prefer Soft Touch Mineral Powder in Soft Focus RRP $16.99AUD – I’ve raved about this powder ever since I first got it. I’ve used this everyday since I purchased it and I’ve finally hit pan! I don’t own the Hourlgass Ambient Lighting Powders but this is meant to be a good dupe; for me it’s just a great light finishing powder that adds a bit of extra glow to my pretty dull/dehydrated complexion. I never find that this makes me look cakey and in saying that i’m not sure it’d be enough of a finishing powder for those with oilier skin types. However I love it and will definitely be buying another when this baby runs out.

3. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush RRP $19.95AUD – Okay so firstly let me apologize because this shade is not available in Australia, I picked it up on my trip to the US earlier this year. Why it isn’t available here I don’t know because it’s seriously stunning! This is a copper shade that is so metallic it almost looks wet on the eye. I’ve been wearing it with a warm matte brown shade buffed into the crease, this on the lid, a bit of brown pencil liner smudged into my lashes, mascara and done! If you can get your hands on this particular shade and you like warm coppery colours, do it!

4. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed RRP $36AUD – This shade has been on my wishlist for the longest time, I remember seeing Emma talk about it on her blog quite a few times and since then it’s been a must buy. It’s a dusty rose shade that really works with any eye/lip combo you have going, it’s the no-brainer shade. A little pricey for a blush but a little goes a long way with these.

5. Essence I love Nude Eyeshadow in Sweet Like Chocolate RRP $5.10AUD – This is such a pretty warm shade (can you see a trend here?) it has a slight shimmer to it, but it’s very very slight. I’ve been using this in my crease for the look I mentioned above.

top 5 beauty products august

Lately, I’ve been keeping my daily makeup in a small storage box that I take into the bathroom with me every morning to apply, I try to change these products up every week or so but there are some that have stayed in the entire month. I’m finding this is a good way to test out products and also a much quicker way for me to get ready in the mornings since I only have a small selection to choose from. I’ve picked my favourite 5 from last month from that stash.

L’oreal Paris Brow Artist Plumper in Blonde – RRP $18.95AUD – I feel like i’ve talked about this product a lot over on my YouTube channel but it hasn’t gotten as much love over here, basically it’s amazing. I use this on the daily, with a pencil on weekends or nights out when I have a bit more time or just brushed through my brows during the week to make them stay in place and look a little fuller. I’ve tried quite a few of these new brow gel/mascara/oomph products of late and this is by far my favourite (followed closely by Benefit Gimme Brow). While it’s a little on the pricey side for a drugstore product, there are always sales and I suggest you pick this one up on the next one.

L’oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in 640 Erotique – RRP $21.95AUD – This was one of those on a whim purchases, I was actually after a different lipstick by Chi Chi at the recent 20% (or was it 30% off) at Target and couldn’t find it. P.S. Is anyone else’s local Target cosmetic section an absolute shit hole? Mine is the worst! Anyway, I was browsing around the other stands and saw a fresh range of these lipsticks in a bunch of new colours and formulations. Of course I went straight for the mattes and picked this bad boy up… It is in a word PERFECTION! Such a great deep rosy nude shade that can be worn every single damn day (which it has). I’ve never tried a L’Oreal lipstick before and this has me wanting to go back to try more, the formula is so creamy for a matte lipstick and it feels comfortable on the lips. That shade though (heart eyed emojis). The scent might not be to everyones taste/or smell but I don’t mind it and it doesn’t stick around that long anyway.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Masacara in Blackest Black – RRP $21.95AUD – I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers raving about this mascara, and rightly so! People have said that it’s a good dupe for Benefits Roller Lash, I don’t have that so I can’t compare. What I can say though is that it is a solid mascara and does the job of defining, lengthening and creating volume in my lashes. The brush is also kind of unique and gets those outer corner lashes fluttering like nothing else. This is the first masacara that has actually wow’d me in quite awhile.

Chi Chi Cosmetics Lip Liner in Fly Girl – RRP $9.95AUD –  I have so much love for the Chi Chi Cosmetics Viva La Diva lipsticks so I decided to pick up a lip liner to try out. I’m not usually a lip liner kind of girl but this has certainly converted me, the colour is a deep dusty pink which looks great on it’s own or layered with a lippy on top (With that L’Oreal Erotique shade especially). The formula is one of the creamiest I have ever tried with a lip liner which can be a good thing or a bad thing, bad in the sense I feel like it may run out very very soon. Oh well I’ll just need to go buy a backup.

Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Hot Chocolate – RRP $3.05AUD – Not a typo, that is the price and it is worth much much more than that. Such a rich and pigmented eyeliner that goes on almost gel like. I like wearing this pressed down quite close to my top lash line to give the bottom of my lashes more volume and not be so KAPOW like a black liner can be. It also looks great with any neutral eye look smudged on the lash line. I’ve also picked up another shade recently in Hot Scorch which will likely be featured here soon.

Here are some swatches of a few products – Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Hot Chocolate, Chi Chi Cosmetics Lip Liner in Fly Girl & L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in 602 Erotique.

I’ll start with the Essence Longlasting Lipstick in Come Naturally (available from Priceline & Target for a mere $4.70). I think this may be a limited edition shade but if you scavenge through your local Essence stands you may find one. The shade is one of those soft greigey, mauvey shades that are quite on trend at the moment. The formula is a satin finish and feels hydrating on the lips. I don’t think i’d really call it longlasting but for a lipstick under $5 it does a pretty good job.

After wearing it a few times I thought to myself how amazing would this be as a matte lipstick, so I went about and did a little research on how to transform a lipstick into a matte shade. I then stumbled across the Australis Matte Me Mattifying Lipstick Base (RRP $12.95AUD), I’d seen this in store before and really not given it a second thought, big mistake HUGE. This is awesome, you simply pop this over your lips to matte them out and then apply any lipstick on top and it turns them matte. What is this trickery?

A couple of things to note though – you can do this same thing with baby powder, and i’m pretty sure that is one of the main ingredients in this lipstick, I just think it’s just easier to pop this on the lips underneath the shade you want to matte out. It does also lighten the colour slightly, as well as being slightly drying so make sure before you use it you’ve prepped your lips. The wear time also isn’t as great as from the bullet matte lipsticks, and it doesn’t really work too well with lipsticks that have a glossy/high shine finish, satin formulas seem to work the best.

All these things aside though, this is for sure a game changer!

I’ve also put a couple of swatches of it using some other lipsticks in my collection so you can see what I mean by it working more so for lipsticks with a satin finish. The first lipstick swatch is straight from the bullet, the 2nd swatch is with the Australis Matte Me Mattifying Lipstick Base underneath. From the left the shades used were Essence Longlasting Lipstick in Come Naturally, Face of Australia Lipstick in Malibu Barbie & Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart.

I can’t wait to try this with so many more of my lipsticks! Have you tried it and it worked amazing with any colours? Let me know!

I planned to do a series of FOTD posts and never got past The Face #1 and since I couldn’t think up a snappier title for this post I decided i’ll try and continue the series.

I look like such a happy clam in this picture right… nope not at all! Also…Spot the sloths!

This face was done a couple of Sundays ago, our washing machine wasn’t working so I went to a laundromat wearing this look and feeling a little overdone. I was also clearly in need of a hair wash & our hot water wasn’t working as well so I had to go to the gym to have a shower and wash my hair #firstworldproblems. All is good now in the world of hot showers and washing machines!

I wanted to try out a few new products i’d picked up over the past couple of months that hadn’t really gotten much use. For my base I used NARS Sheer Glow in the shade Deauville, this might sound a little controversial but i’m not sure that I like this foundation very much. I’m going to give it a few more chances before it features in a Disappointing Products video or post but so far, not getting the hype. I concealed & highlighted with my Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory and did a little contouring (give me cheek bones and no double chin) with NARS Laguna Bronzer – I’ve been loving this again lately, it seems to warm up my complexion. NYX Peach Blush was used on the cheeks and will forever be a favourite of mine, and I feel like it’s never ending because I use it so much but still haven’t hit pan!

On my eyes I can’t remember exactly which shades I used but it looks like I used the neutrals (naturally) from TheBalm Meet Matt(e) Palette. The shadows are buttery and easy to blend, I get a little chalkiness from the lightest shade Matt Smith but other then that the shades i’ve used so far have been great (I’m actually wearing Matt Gallagher in my crease today for a bit of definition/I can’t be bothered doing full eye makeup today). I lined my eyes using the Essence 2 in 1 Eyeliner Pen, I picked this up because it had a thin nib on one end and the other end was a little thicker and slanted, the pigmentation on this isn’t fantastic and I feel like I need to push down quite hard to get colour. I then coated my lashes with the Essence LashMania Reloaded Mascara.

For my brows I bought out an old favourite the Benefit Brows A Go Go Palette* and then set them in place with the Benefit GimmeBrow in Light/Medium. Yes, it is as amazing as the reviews say!

Lips! This is my new Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream in Crush – Look at that colour! I’m not going to say too much because I have a review and proper swatches etc coming of this soon 🙂

I would like to try and do more of these because it’s a good way to give mini reviews of some products that I can’t/haven’t done full reviews on.

Products marked * were provided for my consideration.
