Red Lipstick is one of my favourite makeup items to wear, so here I have condensed it down to my top 5 picks. You’ll notice a theme running through my picks that they are all matte, but I personally think red lipstick suits the matte formula more. There are some at the lower end price point and some at the higher so hopefully something for everyone.
Boy, it was hard but I think I managed to pick a good bunch. Have a watch of my video below & subscribe if you’d like to see more!
I posted about this deal on my Instagram on Saturday but thought i’d whip up a quick blog post showing the set and telling you about the deal again. This set retails at Target for $19.95 but they currently have 40% off revlon gift sets bringing this down to around $12.00. That’s $6 per balm stain!
It contains a Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in the shade Showy (a hot blue based pink), and a Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in the shade Vivacious (a hot warm pinky red shade). I actually think Vivacious is a bit of a dupe for MAC Impassioned, I’ll check this out and do a comparison if they are.
Finally a set with 2 colours I actually like! I’m so glad I picked this up and for such a bargain. I think the sale is on until the 3rd of December so make tracks to your local Target ASAP if you want to get your hands on a set. They also had a bunch of other sets available to but this was the only one that took my fancy.
The Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm’s form part of the Revlon Colorburst Balm range featuring mattes, lacquers and the original kissable balm stains. Being a matte lip lover and loving the original balm stain formula, I knew these would be for me.
My collection started with 2 and very quickly grew to 5. The shades I own are Elusive, Audacious Unapologetic, Shameless, Striking & Standout; and i’m not going to say there won’t be others joining the pack because I already have my eye on one or two shades more.
All of the balms are beautiful but do require a little bit of lip prep to get them looking nice on the lips which is the case with most matte lippies. I probably could have taken on my own advice when I did these swatches since my lips weren’t in tip top condition as you’ll see.
I will mention the only real problem child in my bunch is unfortunately the amazing purple toned Shameless – the others seem to work really well but this one just applies patchy on me :(. My pick of the bunch is surprisingly one of my newer additions, Striking. It’s such an easy to wear red and quite similar to the discontinued Revlon Matte Lipstick in Strawberry Suede.
Update – I fail at life and this is why I shouldn’t do my posts late at night, below the picture I’ve marked as Audacious is actually Unapologetic….OOPS! I don’t even own Audacious!
Have you tried the matte balms and what should I pick up next? I’ve looked at the lacquer version as well but none of them really stood out to me.
You can pick these up from all the usual Revlon retailers and keep an eye out for when Chemist Warehouse do 50% off, that’s always a good time to grab a couple.
This week I joined a new makeup challenge group created by Omega. Each week is a new challenge and I’m hoping I can manage to participate in each weekly challenge and step out of my makeup comfort zone. If your an Aussie or Kiwi looking to get involved, it’s an open party! You’re welcome to join in the fun.
This week’s theme is “My Favourite Lipstick” and possibly the hardest ever question for me to answer. I had a think about my stash and what I would possibly take as a desert island shade or a shade that I own that makes me smile.
The answer was Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Melonade (and I’m terrible for using this as my fave as it’s discontinued and hard to find… sorry guys).
I kept the look pretty simple, I’ll be honest it was the makeup I wore to work and being a Monday and having a slight case of “Mondayitis” I went for the most basic of makeup looks using minimal products. Revlon Melonade is my perfect “wake me up” shade and just brightens my face.

Over the past few months i’ve slowly added to my collection of Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (JBKBS for short). I have another 4 to share with you today, and I’m not going to say this is the last your going to see of these on my blog. I frickin’ love them and already have another 2 shades on my wish list (Lovesick & Honey FYI). I previously reviewed Darling & Sweetheart. Check that post out for more details about the wear etc of the JBKBS’s.
The new shades i’ve picked up are Rendevous (finally available in Australia!), Romantic, Smitten & Crush (also new to Australia).
Crush was picked up after I did the other swatches, so the photo is a bit different with different lighting etc and not a great example of the colour (blogger fail!).
My pick of the bunch is Smitten, I picked this up on a whim to be honest and it’s turned out to be one of my most used lip colours in my collection of the past few months.
These babies retail for $17.95AUD, but at the time of writing this they are currently available at Priceline for $10.00AUD a pop until 29th July 2013.
